Activities

Days in the forest, at the pace of your group

Every group has four or five travelers and its own guide from San José de Uchupiamonas, who reads tracks and calls and knows what each plant is used for.

Guided walks

More than 40 km of trails around the lodge

The trails are named after the animals and plants of the area, and most are easy walks of one to four hours. Your guide stops for medicinal plants, giant trees and the ecological cycles of the forest, and finds animals by their call or their footprints.

Trails are walked only with a guide, and routes and distances adapt to each group.

Night walks

The forest after dark

With a flashlight and your guide, one of the trails becomes a different place: frogs, insects, tarantulas and the sounds the forest only makes at night. The walk lasts one to two hours.

More to do

Birds, wildlife and the river

Red and Green Macaw

Birdwatching and macaws

Madidi National Park has recorded more than a thousand bird species: macaws, parrots, toucans, harpy eagles, king vultures and kingfishers. A macaw clay cliff on the Aguapolo river is one hour on foot from the lodge, and the nesting wall at Caquiahuara is on the boat route (most activity from May to December).

White Lipped Peccary

Salt licks

There are five salt licks around the lodge: clearings where animals come for mineral salts and mud baths. Waiting quietly at one is the best chance to see peccaries, tapirs and monkeys up close.

Madidi Jungle Ecolodge, Madidi National Park

Piranha fishing

All year round, with line, hook and meat as bait in streams and lagoons near the lodge. You may catch piranha, catfish, golden salmon or pacu. Every fish goes back into the water. No extra cost.

Amazon River Landscape

Santa Rosa lake

For longer stays: two hours by boat and a 15-minute walk to a lake for canoeing, fishing and swimming in marked areas, with caimans, capybaras, turtles and birds around. USD 30 per person extra, minimum two travelers.

Tubing on the Tuichi river

Tubing on the Tuichi

From April to October, when the river is low, you float down the Tuichi in an inner tube, through fast stretches and calm water, with a life jacket. About one hour, no extra cost.

Making handicrafts with rainforest seeds

Seed jewelry

Your guide shows you how to make rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings from palm and plant seeds found in the forest. Optional.

Wildlife

What you may see

Nothing in the forest is guaranteed, and that is part of it. These are the animals our guides find most often around the lodge:
