Tareche program
Two nights give you four different walks: macaws on the Tareche trail, black spider monkeys and the Madidi viewpoint on the Biwa trail, the giant trees of the Mapajo trail and a morning of piranha fishing in a floodplain lagoon.
Itinerary
Day by day
Times are a guide. Your guide adjusts the plan to the weather, the river, your arrival time and what your group wants to see.
Day 1 · Rurrenabaque – Madidi National Park
08:30 · Boat from Rurrenabaque up the Beni and Tuichi rivers, through the Bala Canyon. The ride takes about three hours.
12:30 · Arrival at the lodge and check-in to your cabin.
13:00 · Lunch and time in the hammocks.
15:00 · Three-hour walk on the Tareche trail, mainly for macaws and parrots, with chances of white-lipped peccaries and brown capuchin and red howler monkeys. Along the Aguapolo river and back on the Wabu trail.
19:30 · Dinner, then a short night walk to look for amphibians, insects and tarantulas.
Day 2 · Madidi National Park
07:30 · Breakfast, then a three to four-hour walk on the Biwa trail, where black spider monkeys are often seen. Stop at the Madidi viewpoint for a view over the forest canopy. Return on the Tareche trail.
12:30 · Lunch and time to rest.
15:00 · Three-hour walk on the Mapajo and Almendrillo trails: giant kapok, almendrillo and strangler fig trees, and the medicinal plants your guide uses. Return on the Dati trail.
19:30 · Dinner of dunucuabi, catfish cooked wrapped in leaves.
Day 3 · Madidi National Park – Rurrenabaque
07:30 · Breakfast, then a boat ride up the Tuichi to the Serere trail. Walk through floodplain forest to the Piraña lagoon, where yellow squirrel monkeys are common, and fish for piranhas. On the way back, a stop at a large salt lick.
12:30 · Lunch and free time.
13:30 · Boat back to Rurrenabaque, about two hours. Optional stop at Caquiahuara, the nesting wall of red-and-green macaws and other parrots (most activity from May to December).
15:30 · Arrival in Rurrenabaque and transfer to your hotel, the bus station or the airport.
